Hadera Park - Visiting the Sharks

If you’re traveling through Israel with kids in the winter, don’t miss Hadera Park, located on the Mediterranean coast between Caesarea and Netanya. This scenic park is perfect for family walks, picnics, and nature observation. But in the colder months, it hides a truly unique attraction: sharks!

During winter, Mediterranean waters along Israel’s coast cool down to around 16–17°C. However, near Hadera’s “Orot Rabin” power station, warm water from the turbines flows into the sea, creating a natural marine spa. This unusual phenomenon attracts blacktip sharks that can grow up to 3 meters long.

From December to March, the Hadera River estuary becomes a seasonal marine sanctuary, where sharks swim close to shore and can be observed directly from the beach or the seaside promenade.

How to watch the sharks?

  • 🏖 From the shore: The park’s promenade and sandy beach allow you to spot sharks from land, sometimes at very close range.

  • 🛶 By kayak: Some adventurers paddle out in simple kayaks for an even closer look at these majestic predators in their natural habitat.

Family-friendly experience
Children are fascinated by seeing real sharks in the wild. Blacktip sharks here pose no danger to humans, as they feed mainly on fish and show no aggression. Still, swimming in shark areas is prohibited, and observation is safest from the shore or a boat.
